Thermal Aspects of Facade Design:
European regulations and practice viewed from Japan

Speaker: Mr Philipp Schaefers, Facade Engineer Halfen Germany.

Halfen is well known in Europe as providers of engineering solutions and products, and they have worked on a number of projects in Japan. Mr Schaefers will speak about the development of thermal regulations in Europe, and how this is likely to impact Japan, as the country moves towards improving requirements here.

CES learning objectives are:
- Develop technical understanding of U value, R value.
- How calculation of thermal bridge affects facade R value
- Performance of facade as a system, rather than looking only at individual components
- General impact of 'thermal' design on building cost and return
