Meeting Minutes

Attendees:
Michel van Ackere(President), Daishi Yoshimoto( Secretary), Wac Kuno(Treasurer), Jim Lambiasi, Masami Yonezawa, Charles Uhlmann, Riccardo Tossani, Masatoyo Ogasawara

1, Memberships
  • 43 regular members to date along with 20 honorary members. 5 new members have been added since chapter inception. Membership renewal invoices to be mailed out from AIA Japan.
2, Treasury
  • Chapter revenue expected to exceed expenses for 2005.
3, 2005 AIA Component Profile
  • No new committees. President to report to AIA National the finances, activities, and membership information as of December 2005.
4, Call for Questions
  • International Board President (AIA London president) to present concerns from international chapters. Members may submit questions/concerns/requests to Chapter, and they will be relayed to him.
5, Vote on the adoption of Professional Affiliate Membership Solicitation
  • BOD approves adoption of this category of membership.
  • BOD votes for listing only company names in a “back” page, without logos on the front page, 7-to-1. This would be subject to reconsideration as the Chapter grows.
6, Committee Activities Report: Education
  • 150 units were earned by members in AIAJ events this year.
  • Call for future events for CES credit. 2 weeks lead time necessary for CES registration.
7, Committee Activities Report: Green Architecture
  • No activities to report for 2005.
  • Takenaka HQ building tour plans for 2006. Details to be determined.
8, Committee Activities Report: Website
  • Proposal for web maintenance fees presented at 21000 yen/month.
  • BOD to request modified proposal with less frequent page updates.
9, Other Activities
  • Request for support for “Frank Lloyd Wright in Japan” film screening by Wrightian Architectural Archives Japan(WAAJ) chairman, Koichi Mori and Trustee, Karen Severns .
    • Tokyo American Club, Mori Museum, and International House are candidate facilities for screening. AIAJ to research possibilities in these facilities.
    • FLW Seminar Series by WAAJ also seeking a facility and sponsor for a series of 6 seminars in 2006.
  • President proposes sponsorship for Paffard Clay exhibition, currently open in LA, and triennial exhibition for AIAJ members’ work, and Chapter awards. Details to be determined.
10, AIA Convention in Los Angeles, June 8-10, 2006
  • President to attend. Funding of travel expenses will not be covered by the Chapter this year.
11, Nengajyo
  • BOD votes for NOT sending Nengajyo cards this year.
12, Kazuyo Sejima contact request
  • Head of Continental Europe AIA requests contacts. No contacts within BOD.
13, Itsuko Hasegawa nomination for FAIA.
  • Chapter may hold party if Hasegawa is elevated to FAIA. Details to be discussed.
14, Next Meeting
  • March 17, 2006 at 19:00. Location at the new Takenaka HQ Building.
