1. Report from Jun, Jim, George, Riccardo and Wac regarding Conference in San Anotonio

  1. 2011 Northwest & Pac. Rim Regional Conference- Sept. 22-24 Tokyo
  2. Proposal for Design Build conference in Fall 2009 in Tokyo. Conference held in London this year

2. Report from Geeta regarding November 17 event.

  1. Sponsors should be categorized: Platinum, Gold, and Silver.
  2. Endorsement from government agency desired.
  3. Michel to contact AIA National for possible endorsement.
  4. Event tickets to be sold for 4000yen, tentatively.
  5. Venue to hold 150 persons.
  6. Guest speaker candidates: Vice President of Mori Building, Fred Clarke, Kisho Kurokawa, Naoki Inose(Vice-Mayor of Tokyo).
  7. Strong conference theme needed: board members to submit concept ideas to Geeta by email within one week.

3. Report from Sugiyama-san and Yanagisawa-san regarding proposed AIA Japan Design Awards

  1. For NW&P award, AIA Japan members exempt from local award requirement in 2007. AIA Japan to plan award for 2007, for entry to NW&P award in 2008.
  2. Call for entry to be distributed by the end of July. Submission deadline to be for end of September. Jury to consist of AIA National president, an Hon. AIA member in Japan, and an AIA Japan member.
  3. Sugiyama-san to propose further details.
  4. Jim will consult AIA National regarding having AIA President RK Stewart be guest judge during his upcoming October visit.

4. Update report for 2007 budget. (Wac, Jim)

  1. Board approves updated budget.

5. Report from Yasu Sakurai regarding Membership renewal of Affiliates.

  1. Carl Hansen and Bic have dropped. Daiko will renew.
  2. Yasu to propose new “Corporate Sponsor” status to attract more large companies.

6. Report on Kenchikushikai convention held on 6/16 and 17 (Yasu Sakurai)

7. Potential lunch time presentation by a manufacturer for CES credit. (Michel)

  1. Presenter is Italian tile manufacturer. Riccardo offers his office for venue.

8. Lecture series update: possible lecturer Geoff Moussass. (Michel)

  1. July 21 set tentatively for lecture. Michel to ask Mr. Moussass.
  2. George and Michel to seek Kokushikan University sponsorship.

9. Coordinate phone interview with consultant hired by the AIA to work on their international presense. (Michel)

10. Agreement letter: reciprocal relationship for JIA CPD credits and AIAJ CES credits.(Jim)

  1. Reciprocity is already in effect.

11. Website

  1. Board approves 6-month prepayment for website updates.
  2. Jim to send reminder notice encouraging members to use “classifieds” page.

12. Other

  1. WAAJ wants support for their anniversary event. AIAJ to offer support, but not monetary.
  2. George suggests AIAJ to hold an event at 2008 National Convention.
  3. Board endorses FAIA candidacy for George Kunihiro and Jun Mitsui.
