Description:
The Enoura Observatory is located in a beautiful, hilly area covered with citrus grove in Enoura, Odawara. Contemporary Artist, Hiroshi Sugimoto, created a forum for disseminating art and culture within Japan and to the world and comprises a gallery space, a noh stage, revived Tensho-era tea ceremony room, the restored Muromachi Period Meigetsu Gate and a strolling garden. The Artist wanted Visitors to be inspired by art and to contemplate their own life through time, culture, past history and reconnecting with nature at Enoura.
Learning Objective 1:
Connect the purpose of art and revival of ancient traditions at Enoura Observatory with the mission of Odawara Art Foundation founded by contemporary artist, Hiroshi Sugimoto.

Understand the mission of Hiroshi Sugimoto’s New Material Research Laboratory to preserve traditional Japanese materials and methods of craftsmanship.

Observe Sugimoto’s production of classical Japanese theater arts to avant-garde stage art and exhibits of his photographs and art works created as a visionary tribute to nature and art.

Explore Sugimoto’s contemplative experience in architecture and landscape design in their ideal relationship with beautiful nature at Enoura in Odawara.
