SUMMARY:
Tokorozawa Sakura Town has various programs and technologies such as a book manufacturing factory using digital technology, a distribution warehouse, an office, an event hall linked to animation culture, a hotel, a retail store, Musashino Reiwa Shrine, and a seamlessly integrated library and museum. It is a city where people “participate” and “create”, connecting with the surrounding area. Introducing the Kadokawa Culture Museum, which symbolizes the most diversity of in Tokorozawa Sakura Town, with a focus on design.

ABOUT THE PRESENTERS:

Suguru Watanabe (Kengo Kuma & Associates / Partner)
Suguru Watanabe joined Kengo Kuma & Associates in 2005. He is involved in designing not only domestic and overseas architectural projects of various sizes, but also furniture, graphics, video, products, etc. At Tokorozawa Sakura Town, he is in charge of design supervision of the entire exterior, Kadokawa Culture Museum, Musashino Reiwa Shrine, and landscape.

Keiko Onohara joined Kengo Kuma & Associates in 2018. She was in charge of interior design of Kadokawa Culture Museum.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
After attending this program, participants will be able to:

1. Through practice at the Kadokawa Culture Museum, we will discover how architectural design connects regions, people, and culture.
2. We will explain the “stone” that is a feature of the exterior design of the Kadokawa Culture Museum, and clarify the differences from the conventional stone architecture and the visual effects obtained.
3. We will find the possibility of how the concept of modern diversity such as “mixture of high culture and low culture” can be made into architecture, by taking the spatial composition of the museum.
4. We will introduce new information provision methods (software) and bookshelves (hardware) that we have tried at the library, and clarify the differences from conventional libraries.
