Kaz Yoneda: Tokyoism: Speculative Practice as a Metronomic ‘Other’

Thursday, April 25, 2019 @19:00

ABOUT THE SPEAKER:

Kaz Yoneda is the founding principal of Bureau 0-1 (zero to one), Inc., an integrated full-service design practice grounded in architecture. With a process oriented ontological principles that evades any equilibrious or binary system, they offer a boundary-less and timeless design that seeks to question and escape conventionality. Perhaps this is rooted in his upbringing. Always a metronomic outsider to Japan, Kaz was born in Seattle, spent summers in Kansai, raised in California, then went on to receive B.Arch. from Cornell AAP, worked at Sou Fujimoto, and then back to receive M.Arch. II from Harvard GSD. A chapter turned when he arrived to Tokyo to startup Harvard’s Tokyo Studio with Toyo Ito, and further, as architecture director for Takram from 2011-2014. Through this lecture, Kaz will ruminate on the possibility of integrated theory-praxis emanating from Tokyo in all its singularity and hyperboles.
