SUMMARY:
The lecture will explain how the ancient Chinese art of Feng-sui is still a very applicable way of designing buildings by showing 150 years of Feng-sui architecture from traditional Hakka residences to modern Taipei public residences.
本講演では古代中国から伝統の風水が現代の住環境整備においても有効であることを、150年に渡る客家の伝統住居から現代台北の公共住居までの実例で示します。
LEARNING OBJECTIVES:
- Explanation of the health related aspects of Feng-sui, which is a serial thinking of harmonious relations between ying/yang, outdoor/indoor, physical/mental and modern/tradition etc. Through harmonious relations, the circulation of energy, people can enjoy health and happiness. Through the progress of social changes, the core of space culture still remains.
- Introduce the attendees to Feng-sui’s accumulated experiences in environment for thousand years. The knowledge leads us to a better relation with nature that can actually help us avoid the impact of natural disasters. Not only to avoid natural disasters but also to increase flowing of the energy (chi). Peaceful mind brings sustainable environment, and richness in life. Some Taiwanese modern residences still respect Feng-sui rules, some examples will address these points.
- Teach the attendees the positive impact of Feng-sui on an aging Society. Because of the low birth rate, aging society need, more elder and younger friendly environment. The dramatic social change urges Taipei city government to build 50000 social residences and elder care facilities over the past 4 years. New eco-community has various social spaces and service facilities, trying to bring people, community and nature together.
- Convey to the attendees how Feng-sui can help build strong community and societal ties. Community and families are separated and dispersed because of the modernization and industrialization. The lecture will address the on-going influences of Feng-sui and architecture design. The old and new eco thinking is either changed or unchanged through Taiwanese modern architectural progress. New communication devices, design technology (BIM) and circulation economy only strengthen the linkage of the community but also consolidate the structure of spaces and people.
