Lecture Description

The lecture will explore the concept of architecture as part of a “living whole,” emphasizing its relationship with people, nature, and time. It suggests that the act of building is a collaborative process that nurtures architecture appropriate to its environment. The lecture will touch on the following topics:

Whole of Life: Architecture is intertwined with the act of living; it emerges from collaboration and is shaped by its context.

Spatial Totality: Architecture creates an internal world while also being part of the larger external environment. It serves as a link between these worlds, creating a continuum that connects various scales.

Temporal Totality: Architecture exists across time, incorporating influences from the past and future. Each material carries historical significance, prompting a consideration of how to create spaces that resonate with all temporal dimensions.

Irreplaceability of Existence: Viewing architecture as a living entity encourages a deeper appreciation that goes beyond function and performance. This perspective allows for a more holistic understanding that embraces imperfections and nurtures the relationship between architecture and nature.
